If you’re looking for ways to change the look of your home for less, look no further! In this post we hope to help you to spruce up your home without spending too much money or having to replace large items. Just because you are living thrifty does not mean you can’t have a beautiful home. Whilst some bigger jobs are best left to the experts there are plenty of DIY projects you can undertake yourself or with the help of online tutorials.
1. Painting
Ok, this one doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out but sometimes a simple lick of paint can transform a room from drab to fab! Try using the Dulux Visualizer App to see how a different colour could look on your walls before you splash out a tin of paint. Also, whilst it can be tempting to buy the cheapest tin of paint available its worth thinking about longevity, usually the higher quality brands will need refreshing less often so by purchasing the best quality you can afford you could save money and time in the long run.
2. Stick on Tiles
Re-tiling whole rooms or walls can be a really costly and messy process, if the tiles are still structurally sound some stickers may give them a new lease of life and a more modern feel. We found a selection of tile stickers on Amazon suitable for Kitchens and Bathrooms, often for under £10 – just check the suitability of the product before purchasing to ensure it will work for the room you require them for.
3. Kitchens
If your Kitchen Cabinet Doors are looking a little worse for wear but purchasing new ones is out of the question we could have the answer! Upcycle Kitchen Cabinets – or other furniture for that matter – by using some Furniture paint. You’ll need to check the material of the doors to ensure you buy the right paint but we found a variety of paints here from just £5. Another idea to make those Cabinets look brand new is to switch up the handles with something more modern. These can be purchased online or in DIY stores such as B&Q or The Range.
A new worktop could give a Kitchen a new lease of life too, however, you can also upcycle your current one by using Fablon or a similar product. Fablon comes in a huge range of patterns and colours so there is bound to be something that catches your eye.
4. Soft Furnishings
It’s amazing what a new Rug, Throw or some Cushions can do to change the aesthetic of a room. Whilst Rugs can be more costly its possible to get one from IKEA from only £10, a larger one may set you back £29 but still, its miles cheaper than a whole new flooring being fitted! Cushions and Throws can be picked up for only a few pounds each and can transform the look of your Sofa or Living Room taking it from tired to revived. Take a look in shops such as B&M or Wilko for cheaper Cushions or Cushion Covers.
5. Wall Art
Creating a feature wall in a room or adding some wall art can really brighten up and personalise a home. There are lots of choices when it comes to decorating walls – Paintings, Canvas Prints, Wall Stickers, Quirky Shelves, one Wallpapered/different coloured wall or even a pot plant display. Let your imagination run wild! Take a look on Facebook Marketplace, eBay and in Charity Shops for pre loved art or décor that you would like for your home without breaking the bank. Decorative items can also be picked up very cheaply in bargain stores such as B&M Bargains or Home Bargains.
