We often hear people say things like ‘I wish I could move jobs’ or ‘I don’t want to go to work tomorrow, I hate it.’ Some people feel as if they are ‘stuck’ in their current job with no hope of getting FREE. That’s simply not true and we want to help you build some skills for free that you can add to your CV to give a helping hand. Sometimes, this means a sacrifice like one hour a day less of TV in exchange for learning. But, how great will you feel if that one hour every day enables you to land a new role?!

We’ve done some research and these are the top free courses/course providers we can find.

Open Learn

Open Learn is designed, written and managed by the Open University and boasts over 1000 free courses. This is a great place to start if you want some variety to choose from. Some examples of learning topics are Business, Education, Health, Sports, Languages, Psychology and History. Although you won’t get a physical certificate its a great foundation to finding what it is you want to study further. You will however, get a PDF Statement of Participation to prove you have completed the course.

Future Learn

Essentially, Future Learn is a library of free online courses offered by Universities across the UK. Presently there are over 400 available with subjects such as Business and Management, Politics, Literature, Creative Arts, Teaching, Study Skills and Coding. Course certificates are only available when upgrading to a paid version but if the knowledge and foundation is enough for you then we recommend this site!

Google Digital Garage

There are currently 125 FREE Google Digital Garage courses available online. Some include a free certificate whereas some of the more advanced courses ran by partner firms require payment. But, there are plenty of free ones to stick with! Possibly our favourite course is ‘Fundamentals of digital marketing’ which is ran by Google themselves with an estimated learning time of 40 hours.

Reed.co.uk

Reed offer a selection of free courses as a third party marketer. You’ll be able to find a variety of courses such as Business and Administration Level 2, Bookeeping, Nutrition and Health and Understanding Autism. Just use the ‘free’ button underneath courses to find what you’re looking for!

Alison

Discover free online courses at Alison ranging in subjects such as Accounting, Business, Chemistry, IT, Risk Management and Food Technology. Courses range in accessibility from Beginner up to Advanced.

Where else can I learn?

Some local colleges also offer short courses on various subjects which allow you to look into whether you think something is for you, before potentially paying for a full course in say, Bricklaying or Plumbing.

We’ll also update this page from time to time with other free courses we think are worthwhile.
